This French word for "estate" is used mainly to add a note of distinction to a winery's name, such as Domaine Chandon, Domaine Carneros, or Domaine de Chevalier. It's generally applied to winery estates in the Burgundy region of France in order to differentiate between individually owned estates and negociant wines, whereas "châ╠éteau" is used more frequently in Bordeaux.
