Literally "half dry" in German or Austrian, halbtrocken refers to a style of wine that is much lower in residual sugar than auslese [OUSE-layza], spã╠łtlese [SCHPATE-lay-zuh], or kabinett [KAH-be- net] wines, but not as low in residual sugar as trocken wines. Halbtrocken isn't an indicator of quality, only sugar content.
