A half-bottle of wine is half the size of a standard bottle (750ml). It holds 375ml, or three-eighths of a liter, and is also referred to as a "tenth" or a "split." Half-bottles are most commonly seen at restaurants, particularly when a diner wishes to complement each course of his or her meal with a suitable wine without getting completely sloshed. Many dessert wines are packaged in half-bottles as well, since they tend to be consumed in small amounts.
