The term "Right Bank" is used by much of the wine world to describe all the Bordeaux appellations located on the Right Bank (or north side) of the river Dordogne in France. The two most important Right Bank appellations are St-Émilion and Pomerol, and the whole Right Bank is dominated by the Merlot varietal. These two exceptional appellations produce the greatest expression of Merlot in the world—just ask anyone who has ever tasted a 1988 Pé́trus.
